World Water Forum: Simple Tech

Simple devices for capturing and distributing water upstaged some of the high-tech gear at the World Water Forum’s trade exhibition in Istanbul.  The rope pump, fashioned from rope and plastic pipe and operated by hand,  lifts water from an open well in places where electricity is scarce and costly. Another low-cost approach: cement-block troughs that catch rainwater. Here’s the simple tech story.
